Stokesdale, North Carolina -based KALO Foods, LLC is recalling certain Single Slice Carrot Cake citing undeclared soy, a known allergen, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The recall involves packages labeled Single Slice Gluten Free Carrot Cake with UPC Code 8 53407 00418 4 that has the ingredient panel stating Chocolate Cake.
The products, packaged in clear plastic clam shells, were distributed between 2/28/24 to 2/29/24 primarily in retail stores located in the States of North Carolina and Virginia.
The package is labeled as Carrot Cake that contains soy, while the ingredient panel and the affected UPC Code is for their Chocolate Cake, in which soy is not listed in the ingredient statement.
The recall was initiated after the firm on March 1 was notified by one of their customers that packages are labeled as Carrot Cake, but the ingredient panel on the bottom is for Chocolate Cake.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy may get serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product. However, the company has not received any reports of illnesses related to the impacted product to date.
Consumers are urged to return the recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund or they may discard them.
In similar recalls due to undeclared allergen, Brooklyn, New York-based M&P Production Ltd in late February called back around 669 pounds of raw lamb and beef samsa products for sesame seeds, and Garden Grove, California-based LQNN Inc. recalled Banh Ba Xa and varieties of Banh Pia products for egg.
