BTS’ V recently released a new solo single, “FRI(END)S,” along with an accompanying music video, via BigHit Music.
The track, written in English, follows the singer’s September 2023 EP Layover.
“Friends are not supposed to get too close and feel emotions that we’re feeling now/ We ain’t slowing down/ But once we cross the line, there’s no denying, you and I can never turn around,” V sings before a small choir of background vocalists kicks in.
V, who began his mandatory service in the South Korean military alongside bandmates RM, Jimin, Jung Kook, Jin, J-Hope and Suga, had confirmed in December that he’d banked a few projects to release during the 18-month period he would be away and that he had “prepared a lot of things.”
“I will miss you so much,” he wrote at the time. “Actually, I’m really sad that I can’t make happy memories with my ARMY for the time being […] it’s the hardest not to see the ARMY.” He added, “I’ll be back!”
V first announced the “FRI(END)S” track on social media on March 3, sharing several concept photos and teaser videos. “The track, rooted in the pop soul R&B genre, delivers relatable and witty romance through lyrics,” read a statement from Big Hit Music at the time.
“The single artwork accompanying the announcement reveals the song title and release date against a vivid pink background that hints at the song’s sweet mood,” it continued.
