Gene Simmons Says Sale Of KISS Catalog Was Not About Financial Gain

April 8, 2024
in Entertainment

Gene Simmons says financial gain was not the motive behind the decision to sell KISS’ catalog.

Pophouse announced the acquisition of KISS’ music catalog, brand name and IP last Thursday.

The package includes the famous face paint designs as well as trademarks of the iconic American rock band.

The bassist and co-founder of KISS said in an interview with People that it felt like a “natural thing” to make the deal with the Swedish entertainment and music investment firm, although the rock band “weren’t looking for it” initially.

“Life happens while you’re busy making important plans. We were planning our respectful, proud walking off into the sunset, because we’ve been touring, we had been touring for half a century. I don’t want to go out there with my walker,” he told People.

Referring to a meeting between the band and Pophouse, Simmons said, they “broke bread, talked about our families and we got to be friends.”

Simmons maintained making money is “not what [the sale is] about. It’s about enjoying life,” while adding, “I’m certainly blessed.”

The Swedish entertainment and music investment firm said it acquired the artist share of the master recordings and publishing rights of KISS. The financial terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.
