Sam Hunt channels Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash in the music video for “Locked Up,” featuring wife Hannah Lee Fowler.
The video, which was filmed at a prison in East Tennessee, arrived on March 22nd. It features Hunt, dressed in a suit, performing for prison inmates on a makeshift stage.
Hunt, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Jerry Flowers and Zach Crowell co-wrote “Locked Up,” which sees Hunt singing about a turbulent phase in his relationship with wife Hannah.
“We found a really cool old prison in East Tennessee, and we had this idea originally to recreate the Johnny Cash Folsom Prison concert that he did back in the day and dressed up in all black, a suit, and I got a bunch of local guys to come out and dress up as inmates and had a really good time with it, sort of a period piece idea, I guess you could call it. I don’t know if I did Johnny Cash justice,” Hunt said, via his record label.
“I got locked up I was in a young, dumb, rowdy phase / Still hangin’ on to my bachelor days / You were still prayin’ / For me to start changin’ my ways / Thirty years old and still actin’ a fool / Damn near the same kid you met back in school / I thought I might have lost you / Yeah, I thought it might have cost me / The love and the light of my life,” Hunt recalls in the opening verse.
