Mattel has honored Shania Twain with her own Barbie Doll, selecting the singer as one of this year’s Barbie role models.
Over the past several years, Mattel has been creating special Barbies to honor inspirational women on International Women’s Day.
The Barbie awarded to Twain is dressed in her iconic look from the music video for the woman empowerment song, “Man, I Feel Like a Woman.”
“Ladies and gentlemen… I am honoured to be recognised as a Barbie role model – I have my own one-of-a-kind Barbie doll!! Pinch me!! Thank you @Barbie and @Mattel for creating this reflection of me. I love her!!” Twain posted on X.
A video clip she posted on Instagram, shows Twain holding her likeness Barbie.
“That is the original ‘Man, I Feel Like A Woman’ outfit, and the hair is just me still playing Barbie with myself. The story carries on, and it’s really beautiful that we can evolve,” she writes.
“I was telling stories through my music by the time I was 10 years old,” Twain said in a statement. “Writing stories and being able to share them with friends, family, and even the world has always been cathartic and felt like a way to manifest the future I wanted for myself.”
“I applaud Barbie for encouraging girls to create their own narratives and I’m honored to serve as a storyteller and role model during their 65th anniversary year. Dreaming is wonderful, but being able to put those dreams into action is a crucial step that Barbie helps girls visualize,” she added.
The other recipients of the special Barbies this year, which marks the celebration of Barbie’s 65th birthday, are Helen Mirren, Viola Davis, Kylie Minogue, Maira Gomez, Lila Aviles, Nicole Fujita and Enissa Amani.
