in Entertainment

A documentary on the making of a Chet Atkins tribute album will premiere on CMT on April 19 at 10 p.m. ET.

The one-hour documentary, titled We Still Can’t Say Goodbye – The Making of a Musician’s Tribute to Chet Atkins and his Legacy Remembered, is produced by Opry Entertainment Group and Morningstar Music Productions.

The doc features 22 artists, including Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, Sierra Hull, Tommy Emmanuel, Ricky Skaggs, James Taylor, Alison Krauss, and Brad Paisley, who have paid tribute to Atkins on the upcoming album, We Still Can’t Say Goodbye’ – A Musicians’ Tribute to Chet Atkins. The 15-track album is also due to be released on April 19.

“The first day of filming was marked by Tommy Emmanuel’s recording of ‘Mr. Guitar,'” producer Kathryn Russ said about the documentary that takes fans inside the making of the Chet Atkins tribute album. “However, it was his intimate stories that truly captured the essence of the man they sought to honor. Chet Atkins was more than just a talented producer, studio head, and guitarist; he was also a humble, caring mentor who left a profound impact on countless musicians.”

“Producing this TV special on the making of the new tribute album for iconic Opry member Chet Atkins has been truly inspiring. It’s been a remarkable experience witnessing legendary artists unite to honor Chet’s legacy. Through this special, we hope viewers experience the timeless and lasting influence the extraordinary Chet Atkins had on country music,” added executive producer Martin Fischer.
