The Jimmy Buffett Estate recently released a video for “University of Bourbon Street,” a track from the late musician’s final album, Equal Strain On All Parts.
The song, which Jimmy Buffett co-wrote with Will Kimbrough, features the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band and summarizes the spirit of the New Orleans city that left an indelible impact on the musician.
The video for the autobiographical anthem shows Buffett reminiscing about his transformative years in New Orleans.
The visual features a footage of Buffett recording the song, photographs spanning over several decades, and clips of the singer performing in New Orleans.
Buffett played the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival several times, adored the city’s legendary composer Allen Toussaint, recorded and toured with local icons The Neville Brothers.
He once said, “I don’t think there ever would have been,” when a journalist asked him if he thought “there would be a Jimmy Buffett if there wasn’t a New Orleans.”
Equal Strain On All Parts was released on November 3, 2023, about two months after Buffett’s death.
