Trisha Yearwood and Questlove are set to join the cast of This Is Spinal Tap 2, a sequel to Rob Reiner’s original rock music mockumentary that premiered in 1984.
Reiner, who is directing the sequel, also reprises his role as Martin “Marty” Di Bergi, with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer stepping back into their characters as the titular heavy metal band.
Garth Brooks, Paul McCartney and Elton John are also making cameos in the upcoming movie.
This Is Spinal Tap, which was regarded as the first-ever mockumentary, focused on the fictional rock band as they embarked on their 1982 U.S. tour in support of their controversial Smell the Glove album.
The Library of Congress noted Spinal Tap as a “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” film. The movie was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.
Brooks told Billboard in December that the sequel would boast a “few other surprises” in addition to its A-list cameos.
“If you think you have laughed before, Jiminy Christmas,” he said at the time. “First of all, I was in love with Spinal Tap, in love with the original movie. T he fact that it’s coming back, it’s gonna be neat to be a part of this. Because this is history, man.”
Reiner, Michele Reiner and Matthew George are producing the sequel under Reiner’s Castle Rock Entertainment banner. Christopher H. Warner and Derrick Rossi serve as executive producers on Spinal Tap 2.
